1. Buying before checking approval

Review technical eligibility before purchase or shipment. A missing COC may have a straightforward solution, but a modified vehicle or one without suitable approval can need a different route and additional expense.

2. Treating all taxes as one bill

Separate IGIC, IEDMT and IVTM from professional and official fees. A 0% registration-tax band does not mean there is no IGIC or no registration cost.

3. Assuming every move is exempt

Collect the residence, prior-use and arrival evidence before the move. Buying the car shortly before relocating, missing a deadline or planning to sell it soon afterwards can change eligibility. Check each tax separately.

4. Booking the wrong inspection

Explain that the vehicle needs a registration inspection and confirm the required technical file. A periodic ITV booking does not necessarily address first-registration requirements.

5. Losing originals or mismatching details

Keep the original registration and ownership documents. Check the VIN and spelling of names consistently across the file. An unclear scan may help initial contact but will not cure a missing original required for an official procedure.

6. Assuming a file or appointment allows driving

An open application does not itself authorise road use. Verify plates or permit, insurance and inspection status. Arrange transport when driving is not permitted.

7. Expecting a guaranteed completion date

Ask for the next dependency and an estimate based on the actual file. Distinguish document preparation, ITV, customs/tax review and DGT processing. A delay at one stage can hold up the rest.
